Stadler have taken their third order for the latest generation of trams following a contract signed with Rostock Straßenbahnen AG (RSAG) in Germany.
The contract will see 28 total integrated low-floor drive tram railcars (TINA) which are the latest model and are heavily focused on passenger comfort.
The two-way TINA trams are made up of three parts which are fully air-conditioned and have the capacity for 221 passengers, 75 of which are seated. Measuring in at approximately 32 metres in length, the tram's spacious interiors feature panoramic windows and integrated passenger information systems.
The low-floor step-free vehicles feature additional space for pushchairs and bicycles in four areas which are designated as multi-purpose. Maximum headroom, alongside panoramic windows with unobstructed views, provides a light and airy atmosphere. The trams also feature USB charging points, wifi throughout and modern information screens in order to keep passengers up to date as they travel. The new trains also feature video surveillance and onboard ticketing machines as do all other RSAG vehicles.
Four bogies which have been specially designed for the trams not only provide smooth journeys for passengers but also protect the wheels and the rails. The trams also have an integrated collision warning system.
The new Stadler TINA trams are set to gradually replace some of the 6N1 trams which began service from 1994 to 1996 and following 30 years of hard work are being phased out.
As per the contract, the first of the trams will be delivered by the end of 2024 and 2025 Will see the first trams of the new series operating in Rostock. With the new order, Stadler-made trams will increase to 41 vehicles in RSAG's fleet and operate throughout the RSAG's network.
The new trams will be operated by RSAG on all of its six tram lines in the Hanseatic and university city of Rostock.
