Anderston station initially closed on the 13th of March as part of a £32m improvements programme which will bring improved punctuality and reliability for services between Rutherglen and the Exhibition Centre.
The programme has seen considerable repairs carried out on tunnels, bridges and tracks during the 13-week period with work carried out at the station set to create an improved experience for passengers.
The last three months have seen engineers take out the station ceiling for both the concourse and platform areas with 25 tonnes of the material being recycled.
Other improvements carried out at the station include the installation of more than 12 tonnes of steelwork to create a new lift shaft alongside 3,000 metres of brand new cabling throughout the station and 960m² of surface tiles replaced.
Anderston station was initially set to reopen the previous week but worldwide supply chain issues for the delivery of essential light fittings for the platform areas prevented this.
Kris Kinnear, Network Rail Scotland's capital delivery director, said:
“I would like to thank passengers for their continued patience and understanding over the last 13 weeks, particularly when we had to extend the closure by a further week due to circumstances out with our control.
“This vital engineering work and the outcomes it delivers are part of our wider commitment to continually enhance Scotland's Railway for our customers. This includes creating an improved station environment, introducing step-free access and completely refurbishing the platforms.
“Given the extent of the work at Anderston station and on the wider Argyle line programme, we've also ensured that we won't need to undertake an engineering project of this complexity and scale for several decades to come.”

Some work will be ongoing after the station reopens with the project set to be fully complete during autumn. This work will see, new ceiling tiles put in place on the concourse and platform areas, the introduction of the new lift and extra seating at concourse level. The station frontage and outside area will also see improvements with a contemporary glazed entrance alongside enhanced external lighting.
