Northern's Ilkley station saw five primary schools enter the ‘blooming marvellous' competition with TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh taking on the role of judge
The competition was organised by the station adoption group and Halifax Station Partnership and saw celebrity gardener Alan Titchmarsh judge the green-fingered and colourful creations at Ilkley station on Wednesday the 15th of June.
Five primary schools took part in the competition which saw pupils tasked to design and make a ‘blooming marvellous' planter for Ilkley station that passengers can enjoy. The overall winner of the competition was announced as Ashland primary school for their beautiful floral creation.
Northern got behind the creative contest by providing money for materials and plants for all five of the schools to use. The competition is part of Northern's ongoing commitment to working with local communities in the north of England whilst bringing improvements in passenger experience.

“A recent event saw Ilkley-born Alan Titchmarsh attend the station and judge a local school planting competition, with planters provided by Northern.
“A big thank you to everyone who made the day a great success, a special thanks to Alan for engaging with the project.”
