Applications are now open for Tyne & Wear Metro apprenticeships, as Nexus, Metro's operator, looks to recruit apprentices to start their training in start in autumn 2022.
Nine apprenticeships are on offer in various disciplines across Metro's business. All apprenticeships are at Level 3, with five apprentices being taken on for training in Metro's infrastructure, which includes signalling, track maintenance, and engineering communications, signalling, and electrical roles.
In the Procurement and Train Planning teams, two business administration apprenticeships are on offer. One electrical apprenticeship is on offer in the Automatic Fares Collection team, which is responsible for the maintenance of ticket machines, gate lines, and validators across the network.
There is also the rare opportunity for an apprentice to join the Shields ferry crew. The successful candidate will learn all aspects of crewing the ferry and work towards their Boat Master's License.
On completion of their training, over 90% of Nexus apprentices move on to a higher apprenticeship or permanent employment. The company is looking for people who are interested in building long-term careers with them. Over the next five years, they will be investing half a billion pounds in a new fleet, improvements to the track, and service improvements.
