Transport for London (TfL) is urging people to check their travel plans around the capital this Easter as essential work taking place will mean some closures, however, the majority of the network will be running as usual and will enable Londoners and visitors to get the most from the capital this spring.
Buses will be running a Saturday service on Good Friday and a Sunday service for Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
Right through the Easter period, Santander Cycles will be available as usual alongside London's network of Cycleways. Over 10,200 bikes are available 24 hours a day with over 800 docking stations.
The Emirates Air Line cable car will also be running from 8am to 11pm over the bank holiday period. River services will run as usual. All of these modes of public transport offer a great way to explore London!
Hammersmith & City line will not be available over the Easter weekend from Friday the 15th to Monday the 18th of April. Further closures will also affect the District line between Tower Hill and West Ham and also Earl's Court to Kensington (Olympia). These closures are to enable the removal of a temporary ticket hall at Whitechapel which is part of the Elizabeth line improvements taking place at the station.
Sunday the 17th of April will see the District line closed between Turnham Green and Richmond. This closure will allow Network Rail to carry out maintenance work on the track.
The Piccadilly line will also be closed between Acton Town and Heathrow and also Rayners Lane and Uxbridge from Friday the 15th to Monday the 18th of April, this is to allow engineers to install new track and drainage and is part of the Piccadilly line Upgrade. Customers making their way to Heathrow can use TfL Rail or Heathrow Express services as well as replacement buses that will be in operation.
An ongoing closure of the Bank branch of the Northern line between Moorgate and Kennington will mean that there will be no service from Charing Cross to Stockwell and Battersea Power Station, or from Euston to Moorgate on Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th of April. However, services will be able to run northbound from Charing Cross and between Stockwell and Morden. This closure will allow the testing of trains running through a new section of Northern line southbound tunnel at Bank station, the project is running ahead of the current stage and this huge upgrade programme is set to complete in the middle of May.
Docklands Light Railway (DLR) will be closed between Prince Regent and Beckton from Friday the 15th to Sunday the 17th of April. The closure will allow improvement work to be carried out at Beckton depot and comes as part of the replacement of old DLR trains with modern, larger and more accessible trains which will give customers more space from 2024.
Overground services will also see closures with no service from Euston to Kilburn Road over the Easter Weekend to enable work on HS2 to be carried out. Willesden Junction to Richmond will also be closed for engineering work on Sunday the 17th of April.
No Overground trains will run between Liverpool Street and Enfield Town, Cheshunt and Chingford on Sunday the 17th of April until 10:15am which will allow Network Rail to undertake maintenance work on the track. No service will be available between Hackney Downs and Enfield Town/Cheshunt on Sunday the 17th of April after 22:45pm.
Easter Monday will see a Saturday service in operation on all other London Overground routes.
London Trams will see no service between Wimbledon and Therapia Lane until Thursday the 14th of April which is to enable track renewal.

I'd encourage customers to check before they travel as there are some closures, but the majority of the public transport network will be open over the Easter weekend, meaning people can enjoy everything the capital has to offer. We're seeing more and more people using our network again, which is a great sign, and we're pleased to welcome them back.”
People visiting friends and family in London over Easter can access the free TfL Go app as it offers the easiest way to plan your journey whilst out and about. The app has seen over a million downloads since its launch and was developed in-house and offers real-time information for buses, trams, Tube and TfL rail services in a user friendly mobile way. The app will also show which stations are step-free and where accessible journeys can be made within station to specific platforms including changing between lines. The app also provides walking and cycling options throughout London.
