The project got underway back in October 2021 and has seen a massive amount of work carried out already including a sweeping clearance of the site, the creation of embankments and the installation of foundations to allow for one of the new platforms, footbridge and lifts at the site which sits adjacent to the airport.
During the next stage of the project, the new platforms will continue to be constructed alongside the lift shafts and sleepers will also be put in place creating a passing loop through the station.
The station will feature a car park with 64 spaces and 10 electric charging facilities, 4 disabled spaces alongside cycle parking. A new access road to the station for road users, pedestrians and cyclists will also be built providing access to the platforms.
Inverness Airport will offer greater connectivity for the growth of Inverness Airport Business Park and also the new town of Tornagrain which is a key factor in the pursual of a green recovery following the pandemic.
The huge project will provide a two platformed station for the Aberdeen to Inverness line and will offer step-free access via a footbridge and lifts, the creation of a passing loop alongside the closure of Petty Level crossing.
The closure of the level crossing at Petty is another benefit of the project and will bring improved safety for the line and the operation of the new station which is set to be finished in December 2022.

“Once complete, the station will enhance the local area and improve connectivity for local residents and the wider Inverness area by providing a new sustainable transport interchange.
“We will continue to work with our partners to deliver this new station as quickly as possible for our customers and the wider community.”
