On Monday, 2nd May, the Station House at Leeming Bar on the Wensleydale Railway will be officially opened.
The station originally closed to passengers in 1954, although it re-opened to trains as part of the Wensleydale Railway's heritage operation in 2003, passengers were never able to enter the Grade II-listed station house, which was used as offices and storage space.
It has now been restored to how it would have looked in the 1920s thanks to an injection of National Lottery funding.
Visitors will experience what life was like in a busy country station as volunteers in period dress guide them around. The parcels office, ticket office, waiting room, and the stationmaster's private accommodation have all been restored and will be fully accessible to visitors.
The parcels office contains the stationmaster's desk, the ticket office is the place which will still sell tickets, 1920s timetables are on display, whilst the waiting room has old luggage, posters, and benches.
To celebrate the opening, a special guest will be arriving to open the building. From 10.30 am to 4.30.pm there will be music, a period steam traction engine, refreshments, and family games and activities.
Train services will operate throughout the day, and visitors will can step further back in time by travelling to the award-winning station at Scruton, which is set in the early 1900s.
Throughout the weekend there will also be a model railway exhibition in the engine shed at Leeming Bar.
