The East Lancashire Railway is in the process of relaying fifteen track panels, which equals 300 yards of track, to the north of the level crossing at Holme Lane in Townsend Fold, just south of the centre of Rawtenstall.
During the relaying, the old wooden sleepers will be replaced with concrete ones, and new rails will be laid in place of the ones.
Four panels had been changed by 18th January. The railway is now awaiting delivery of more sleepers and fittings so that the work can continue.

The East Lancashire Railway is a 12 1⁄2-mile (20 km) heritage railway line in North West England that runs between Heywood in Greater Manchester and Rawtenstall in Lancashire. There are intermediate stations at Bury Bolton Street, Burrs Country Park, Summerseat, Ramsbottom, Rossendale, Irwell Vale, and Rawtenstall.
