Brand new from Amberley this month, released just 5 days ago (at the time of writing), is One More Glimpse by Robin Coombes and Taliesin Coombes – here is what we think.
We can only describe this book as an evocative collection of stunning photographs from Robin and Taliesin's collection.
Ranging from the Highlands of Scotland to the South Coast and everything in between, this book contains 120 photographs, all of which are highly detailed and come in a variety of locations, angles, techniques used.
In the book, the father and son team of Robin and Taliesin showcase their search for ‘one more glimpse' of the magic of steam power in Great Britain.
Measuring in at 24.5cm x 17cm (approx), this handly sized book is available through Amazon and Amberley Publishing for £12.99 and £16.19 respectively (pricing correct at the time of writing).
Spread over 128 pages all in landscape format, this book has no chapters and just has a simple introduction to the book. Some may think this is a bad point but for me, it is great to just flick open the book on any page and begin exploring what can only be described as world-class photography.
Small captions compliment each image and manage to not distract from the overall photo. What i would have like to have seen is what camera settings were used (ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed) which could inspire readers to pick up a camera and have a go themselves. This is only a small point to make as too much information could distract from what the aim of the book is.
It may only be our review copy, but the text size when white font is on a black background makes the text appear blurred. This may just be a fault with our copy and thankfully doesnt distract from you exploring the image yourself.
In summary, as it says on the back of this book, this collection of images will delight anyone who enjoys the sight of steam at work.
