Leeds has become the latest station to benefit from Network Rail's nationwide roll-out of fast, free, and unlimited WiFi.
Free WiFi has been consistently identified by passengers as one of the key improvements that would enhance their station experience. The service is already operational at some of Britain's largest and busiest railway stations, including London King's Cross and London Liverpool Street, and Leeds is now the latest to benefit.
Network Rail's plans are to transform passengers' digital experience so that they are kept seamlessly connected throughout their journey with fast, secure WiFi that can be used across multiple devices with a single sign-on.
Thanks to the latest technology, speeds of over 120 megabytes per second are available across the entire station. That is fast enough to allow travellers to stream feature films from the internet on-the-go.
It is also ‘Friendly WiFi' certified, which is a government-initiated safe certification standard for public WiFi.
The Friendly WiFi symbol tells users where the service meets minimum filtering standards, particularly in areas where children are present, and ensures that they can know for sure that their online experience is safe.
Nick Cooper, Leeds Station Manager for Network Rail, said: “Our new, fast, free and unlimited WiFi keeps passengers seamlessly connected, no matter where they are in their journey – and with people working more flexibly, it's more important than ever that people can stay connected while they travel.
“I hope that this comes as an extra Christmas present to those passengers who have been asking for this new service and I'm excited to make the most of the opportunities it opens up for digital experiences at the station.”
Registration for the new WiFi is simple. Simply accept the terms and conditions, click ‘Connect' and enjoy. You can also use more than one device with a single log-on, and it is also child-friendly too.
