Wensleydale Railway launch Full Steam Ahead Appeal to expand steam locomotive services

The has launched a new appeal to buy two Mark 1 Coaches to help expand their steam hauled services.

There is something special about seeing steam trains steaming through the countryside, however, there are obstacles in the way of making this a reality.

Incredible progress has been made by the Wensleydale Railway – Station has had an award winning restoration, Leeming Bar Station House has been restored, with a Heritage Education and Community Engagement Programme created.

Improvements to the track and infrastructure have been completed, including the restoration of the Class 121 DMU and Four Mk2 coaches. This has been topped off by a hugely popular Polar Express event, which the railway hired in Ian Riley's LMS Black 5 No. 45407 The Lancashire Fusilier for.

The railway is looking to purchase two very recently refurbished Mk1 coaches, which are vacuum braked to allow the expansion of its steam services.

  1. The Tourist Second Open (TSO) has space for 64 people and has some of its original features, including woodwork and roof lights.
  2. The Brake Standard Open (Micro-Buffet) (BSOT) is complete with micro-buffet, passenger section (31 seats), Guards compartment and disabled access space with double doors, ramp and fixed seating for carers.
