's appeal this year is to support the charity “Back Up”.

Whilst Back Up has its own Christmas appeal with a target of £40,000, Eversholt Rail has pledged to match donations pound-for-pound up to £10,000 made during the company's Big Give week.

Every four hours, someone in the UK will sustain a spinal cord injury, causing paralysis, as the result of a car accident, a sports injury, or even as simple as a fall.

They can affect anyone, and in an instant, resulting in long-lasting changes to the victim's life. The impact can affect every area of life, from bladder, bowel, and sexual functions to adversely affecting careers and relationships.

Back Up is a national charity that helps people affected by spinal cord injury to get the most out of life. It offers training in wheelchair skills, mentoring, telephone support, life skills and activity courses, and support for those returning to work or education.

The charity also provides support to family members and is the only UK charity that has dedicated services for children and young people with spinal cord injury.

To achieve its aims, the charity has three goals:

To enable people with a spinal cord injury to live confidently, and to have the confidence and practical skills to live a full life;

To enable people with a spinal cord injury to thrive at any age so that they can all reach their full potential;

To stay connected, so that everyone affected by spinal cord injury can connect with someone in a similar situation to themselves, to overcome challenges and achieve the goals that matter to them.

All donations to Back Up will provide outreach and support, confidence-building courses, mentoring, and more, for people who are adjusting to life with a spinal cord injury. More details on Back Up are at http://www.backuptrust.org.uk.
