A £230,000 project by TransPennine Express (TPE) has seen improved accessibility for passengers at Malton Station.
Network Rail carried out the improvements which included raising the platform to allow better access to services and easier boarding and departing for passengers from all carriages with trains now able to open all carriage doors.
This investment is part of the Government's Access for All Scheme and follows another investment of £170,000 improvement programme for the station which was carried out over the last few months and has seen a brand new modern ticket office, an improved waiting room with charging facilities, an accessible unisex toilet, and free drinking water fountain installed.
The improvements are hoped to enhance customer experience at the station and boost confidence for those travelling with accessibility needs alongside reducing the risk of delays of trains in the station with a knock-on effect of making services more reliable for passengers.

Matt Rice, Route Director for Network Rail, said: “Improving accessibility on the railway is something close to my heart, so I'm really proud that we've been able to deliver the platform improvements at Malton alongside our partners at Transpennine Express. As calling patterns change and new trains are introduced across the network it's vital that we pull out all the stops to make our stations ready to accommodate them, and while the platform work may be relatively small in terms of new infrastructure, the benefit it will bring to passengers at Malton will be significant.”
North Yorkshire County Councillor Don Mackenzie, Executive Member for Access, said: “We welcome this further investment in facilities at Malton station as part of the Government's Access for All scheme, following the recent improvements to waiting facilities. This work improves accessibility and will make it easier for passengers to board and alight from any part of their train at Malton, removing anxiety about being in the right section. The investment will also reduce the risk of delays to trains while in the station, helping reliability, and help to encourage the use of public transport rather than the motor car.
