Three Good Design Awards for Hitachi Rail

The awards were presented by 's Institute of Design Promotion, who specifically recognised the exceptional design of Hitachi's trains in the following areas:

  • N700S Shinkansen bullet train run by the Central Japan Railway Company;
  • Series 18000 subway train run by on Tokyo Metro's Hanzomon Line;
  • EMU3000 Intercity train run by the Railway Administration.

The Award has been running for more than 50 years, and is one of the most distinguished design awards in Japan and to receive one is regarded a huge achievement. Focusing on recognising incredible designs that simultaneously enrich lives whilst supporting economic development.

Hitachi Rail were recognised for their continuing work and commitment on delivering quiet, comfortable, environmentally friendly trains that appeal to passengers due to their stunning internal and exterior design.

Hitachi's electric-powered EMU3000 intercity train, which is based in Taiwan, has also been chosen for the Good Design ‘Best 100' category.
