Storm Arwen is battering Britain, and is bringing travel disruption across the country, here is the latest travel advice.
Various Do Not Travel notices have been issued as high winds, rain and snow batter the country.
For the most up to date travel information, please check with your train operator or National Rail Enquiries.
The line is currently closed between Edinburgh and Newcastle, with trains either terminating at Newcastle or York.
The line between Bridlington and Scarborough is closed until at least midday. Northern are also running a reduced train service between Skipton and Leeds.
The line between Bolton and Blackburn is closed due to debris on the track.
Passengers are advised not to travel at this time on ScotRail services on these lines:
- Inverness – Wick
- Inverness – Kyle of Lochalsh
- Inverness – Edinburgh / Glasgow Queen Street
- Inverness – Aberdeen
- Aberdeen – Edinburgh / Glasgow Queen Street
- Glasgow Queen Street / Edinburgh – Stirling / Dunblane / Alloa
- Glasgow Queen Street – Edinburgh Via Falkirk High and Falkirk Grahamston
- Glasgow Queen Street – Oban / Fort William / Mallaig
- Fife Circle.
- Edinburgh – Arbroath
- Edinburgh – Dundee
- Edinburgh – Tweedbank
- Edinburgh – North Berwick / Dunbar
- Kilmarnock – Dumfries
- Dalmuir – Motherwell / Cumbernauld – Will be diverted (no services via Hamilton)
- Dalmuir – Larkhall – Terminate and start back at Newton
Transport for Wales have resumed train services after the earlier suspension, but the operator is warning of a number of closures:
- Trains between Shrewsbury and Gobowen may be cancelled as a tree is blocking the railway
- Transport for Wales trains between Shrewsbury and Birmingham International may be disrupted due to resource availability.
- Trees on the line between Swansea and Cardiff means trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised.
- Trains between Carmarthen and Cardiff may be cancelled.
- A tree is blocking the railway between Chester and Wrexham General.
- Trains between Wrexham General and Bidston may be cancelled
- Severe weather is effecting trains between Cardiff and Radyr, trains are currently cancelled
- All lines are closed between Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog
- Services between Cardiff Central and Ebbw Vale Town may be cancelled. All lines are closed.
- A tree is blocking the line between Severn Tunnel Junction and Gloucester.
- All lines are closed between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth
- Trains between Shrewsbury and Holyhead are being disrupted as all lines are closed.
- All lines are closed between Machynlleth and Pwllheli.
Tyne and Wear Metro have suspended services across their network
A number of downed trees are affecting services in the South West England
Rachel Heath, Head of Operations Delivery at Network Rail Wales & Borders said: “Slowing down our passengers' journeys is the last thing we want to do but the safety of our customers and colleagues is our top priority.
“We have yellow and amber weather warnings in place across much of Wales with very high winds in coastal areas expected.
“Our engineers will be ready to fix any damages caused by Storm Arwen, doing everything they can to keep services moving but we do apologise for any delays and disruption this weekend.”
Kathryn O'Brien, Customer Experience Director for TransPennine Express, said: “We are expecting extremely difficult travel conditions this evening and into the early hours of tomorrow, but will do all we can to keep our customers on the move where travel is possible.
“However, customers should be aware that disruption may be widespread and, with Network Rial having imposed speed restrictions across much of the rail network, delays and cancellations are likely on all routes.”
