Network Rail are set to demolish the bridge under the Highland Mainline Railway at Lynebeg soon, and will replace it with a brand new structure as part of the A9 Dualling: Tomatin to Moy project.
The demolition and installation of the new bridge will see round the clock working taking place from 23:20pm on Friday the 26th and will continue until 5:40am on Tuesday the 30th of November.
The new bridge has already been constructed nearby and is ready for installation, and once in place will strengthen, safeguard and future-proof this area of the Highland Mainline.
The upgrading of roads surrounding the railway and the improvement of road junctions as part of the future A9 dualling works will also be supported by the new bridge.
During this essential work, the Highland Mainline will be closed from Saturday the 27th through to Monday the 29th of November.
Train services will be affected on these dates with passengers being advised to plan their journeys ahead using National Rail Enquiries.
Those travelling by road are also being made aware that the work will mean that the B9154 at Lynebeg bridge will be closed to all road traffic from Monday the 22nd of November until Sunday the 5th of December and also Wednesday the 12th of January to Friday the 19th of January 2022.
This closure will allow the work to be carried out safely and efficiently and will see signed diversions put in place.
Billy Mckay, Network Rail's Programme Manager for the Lynebeg/Moy bridge replacement work, said:
“The replacement of the bridge will future proof the railway and support the future dualling of the A9 at this location.”
“The work is crucial to extending the lifespan of the bridge and will enable us to continue to run a safe and reliable railway.
“We understand that there will be some disruption in the short-term to road and rail users and nearby communities and we will do what we can to minimise any inconvenience.
“We are grateful for your patience while we carry out this vital work.”
