A new indoor cycle hub has opened at station.

With 38 covered spaces, the new hub demonstrates 's commitment to improving facilities for the cycling community.

ScotRail hopes the facility will make it easier for customers to have a sustainable journey, and create more demand for cycling to commuter stations by providing improved facilities.

The hub is fully lit, monitored by CCTV, and is located at the North Hanover Street entrance to the station. In the coming weeks, an additional 26-space bike rack with a canopy cover will also be installed at the North Hanover Street entrance.

Once complete, the station will have provision to store 100 bikes. The other storage space is at the Dundas Street side of the station, where there are 36 outside cycle spaces; 20 of these spaces are managed by the Nextbike scheme on behalf of Glasgow City Council.

Further improvements to the cycle hub are planned for the coming months, including two vending machines that will retail a selection of cycling-specific products such as repair kits. Opening times for the hub are 7 am until 10 pm, however, access outside those times can be arranged by speaking with station staff.

Last summer, ScotRail introduced ‘Highland Explorer' carriages on the West Highland Line. These provide space for 20 ordinary bicycles, a limited number of tandem, and an e-bike charging socket which is unique on a British train.

Andrew Marshall-Roberts, ScotRail Economic Development & Communities Manager, said: “We're fully committed to creating a more sustainable and integrated transport network across Scotland.

“We want to join up journeys across the country, and that includes customers whose journeys start and end by bike.

“As life gradually gets back to normal following the pandemic, we're seeing more and more customers using bikes as part of their daily commute or leisure travel, and we are confident that the new Cycle Hub at Glasgow Queen Street will encourage more people to use bikes as part of their journey.”
