The work recognised by the award was given due to TfWs work ensuring a sustainable transition to the new headquarters in Llys Cadwyn. The rail operator worked with Rype Office and social enterprise, Merthyr Institute for the Blind, and saw the refurbishing of current furniture and the use of second-hand furniture instead of buying new which can be a large contributor to the carbon footprint of new facilities. Just 19% of the furniture at the site is new, with 13% sourced locally, which saved almost 93 tonnes of CO2.

The new headquarters also includes solar power and water harvesting systems and has given local employment opportunities for both the construction and fit-out. The interior of the building has also been created attentively to reflect TfW's organisational values and the needs of its staff. A strong emphasis on harnessing collaborative working practices is a key theme, with equality, diversity and inclusion also influencing the interior design which includes a reflection room and non-binary changing rooms and toilets for both staff and visitors.
