Extra trains are being added to the timetable at Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway in Western Lake District.
There will be steam services in November and Festive trains in December. Passengers can enjoy the scenic route running to Eskdale valley in the heart of the Western Lake District fells from the coastal village of Ravenglass.
Enjoy the spectacular views of one of the most scenic narrow-gauge railway in the UK.
Eskdale Valley Explorer
On the weekends of 6th/7th and 13th/14th November, travellers can ride one of four steam trains a day and see the autumnal view.
One child can travel free when travelling with each full fare paying adult on these two weekends.
Eskdale Festive Express
The special festive trains will run from 26th December until 2nd January. For a little luxury, passengers can go for comfort in the 1st class comfort saloon carriage or book seats in ‘Joan' Pullman Observation Carriage, where panoramic can be enjoyed.

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway is affectionately known as La'al Ratty, meaning ‘little railway' in Cumbrian dialect and is one of the oldest and longest narrow gauge railways in England. The line is seven miles long and takes around 40 minutes each way, given passengers the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking views of the estuary and countryside.
“There's something particularly heart-warming about sharing a steam train journey with loved ones during this season” comments Lisa Braithwaite Attraction Marketing Manager for the Railway. She goes on to say, “both our station cafes will be open serving mulled wine, hot drinks and light bites. There's also the fascinating and free to enter Railway Museum to explore at Ravenglass Station.”
Lisa Braithwaite concludes, “We are back on track. Two weeks ago, our wonderful railway was impacted by a landslide. After a phenomenal effort by both paid and voluntary staff, the Railway was able to reopen on the 16th October. The repair effort took several days of hard graft with over 100 tonnes of ballast shifted, new drains installed, new sleepers, new rail, new fixings and lots and lots of human effort. It's now full steam ahead with October half term next week and these extra special services for November and the Christmas holiday period.”
