The Stainmore Railway Company, based at the Kirkby Stephen East Steam Railway, has recently published updates on restoration projects they are undertaking.
North Eastern Railway Stores Van No.2
Work is progressing well on restoring No.2, with recent work rebuilding the roof-mounted ducket. The ducket was used by guards travelling on the van to see which station their train had arrived in.
With No.2 dating back to 1902, it's no surprise the original unique wooded parts for the ducket are beyond further use. Being used as templates for the new parts, which are now being trial fitted.
The interior is taking shape. Funding for the restoration comes thanks to a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant, which the Company and Locomotive Conservation and Learning Trust (LCLT), partner in the project, are grateful for.
Once completed, No.2 will be in service on the Kirkby Stephen East steam railway.
North Eastern Railway coach No.818 – On loan from Beamish museum
As can be seen from the photos, No.818 requires much work before the coach can be seen carrying passengers. Until dismantling work begins, the full scale of work involved will not be known.
To help progress the restoration at a faster rate, the Stainmore Railway Company are looking for donations towards No.818.
Donations of any size are greatly appreciated, with the Company hoping to sign up people to donate £500 either in one payment or 20 payments at £25.

Hopefully to their former glory, and to (at some point) Ride Again, alogn the Rails of this Cascading Cumbrian Heritage Railway Attraction, of whom it still has further potential, for
A Bright & Colourfully Sparkling, & ever so Vibrant Future Ahead.
