As freshers head out to their new halls of residence and returning students get back to University this September, (TPE) is offering a helping hand by offering a money-saving code.

Students who have a 16 to 25 railcard and book directly through the train company can grab the savings by simply entering the code TPESTUDENT when purchasing through the TPE app or by visiting the Transpennine Express website.

To make the most of the savings, people under 26 years of age or full-time mature students will need to buy a 16 to 25 railcard to get half-price advance purchase train tickets when booked directly with TPE and the code. The code will give passengers 50% instead of the 1/3 railcard discount.

TransPennine Express serve over 40 universities through the North of England and Scotland and will be attending five freshers fairs during September. The fairs will be at Manchester on the 20th, Sheffield on the 21st, Leeds on the 22nd, Liverpool on the 23rd and Newcastle on the 28th of September. TPE will be giving away all sorts of goodies on their stand and a chance to win one of ten student railcards every day.

Train tickets can be purchased online via the TPE website or by using the TPExpress App which offers Apple, Google Pay or Paypal as means of payment, E-Tickets are also available, which means passengers can use their phone instead of a paper ticket.

TransPennine Express wants to encourage all customers unless exempt to wear a face-covering both at stations and onboard their trains as a courtesy to other passengers and staff members.

Darren Higgins, Commercial Director for TransPennine Express, said: “Whether you're heading off to University, or discovering all the great cities nearby once you're there, you can now bag yourself a bargain with our student offer.

“We're delighted to be able to offer 50% savings on rail travel to students across the North of England and Scotland.

“This year, getting together with friends, exploring with university friends and visiting family outside of term time has never felt better and our student offer will hopefully make those adventures and reunions simpler and more cost effective.”
