Heritage Boiler Steam Services (HBSS) have released their latest update on the restoration and overhaul work they are carrying out on a variety of steam engine boilers at their base in Liverpool.
Great Western Railway (GWR) 4200 Class No.4253 – Owned by the 4253 Locomotive Company
New boiler fittings, such as the regulator pad, have been manufactured.
A lot of riveting has been carried out, which now sees both the throatplate and doorplate attached to the wrapper.
Work continues on refurbishing the foundation ring.

Southern Railway (SR) V ‘School' Class No.928 “Stowe” – Owned by the Maunsell Locomotive Society
Replacement copper plates are being marked up and trial fitted. The replacement lower section of the tubeplate is currently being trial fitted, while sections of the copper plate are being marked up for the new doorplate.

London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) N7 Class No.69621 – Owned by the East Anglian Railway Museum
The firebox is now stripped to a level where Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) can now begin. The foundation ring has been separated, and smaller components are all cleaned and stacked ready for NDT.

GWR 7200 Class No.7200 – Owned by the 7200 Trust
Work progresses on stripping the boiler, which started with the removal of the foundation ring. Drilling out of the copper stays on both sides of the boiler has begun. On completion, the outer side sheets can be removed.
Restoration of 7200's GWR Standard Class 4 boiler will require many new components before it can steam again. This includes the smokebox, tube plate, boiler barrel, throatplate, and backplate.
Both the throatplate and backplate will be produced by South Devon Railway Engineering, with these parts being delivered to HBSS on completion for fitting.
