The public are being asked to give feedback on plans by Network Rail to fully close a footpath level crossing in Copmanthorpe.
Major improvement work is taking place between York and Church Fenton and will allow trains to travel at up to 125mph.
Whilst trains currently run on two of the four train lines through Copmanthorpe village at up to 125mph, the other two lines run between York and Leeds at up to 100mph – though upgrade work will allow these to be upgraded to an allowable 125mph.
The work, as part of the TransPennine Route Upgrade, will bring more capacity for trains and faster journeys for passengers.
Network Rail is looking at options to fully close Copmanthorpe level crossing to improve safety in the area.
Two options have been proposed and residents are being asked to share their views:
- Divert people to the existing Temple Lane Bridge, with plans to install another footpath over the bridge
- Build a new stepped footbridge at York Field Lane.
The virtual consultation will run until Friday 1st October, people can share their views on the Network Rail website.

- Tuesday 28 September, 12:00 – 13:00
- Wednesday 29 September, 18:00 – 19:00
