Work is underway on the multi-million-pound new build for Station which will eventually see a two platformed station built as part of the East Coast mainline.

The station will also feature 70 car parking spaces, a new access road into the station, and will be fully accessible with lifts and a footbridge to connect platforms.

Huge progress has been made so far with embankments widened, substantial progress on the construction of the platforms, signalling alterations, pilling to support the installation of the brand new overhead line equipment, as well as work currently underway on the new access road.

Excavating lift shafts for both platforms is currently underway and also pilling for the footbridge foundations and work to create the platforms.

The next part of the project will be concentrated on the footbridge and lifts and the building of the access road and car park.

When the station is finished, trains will be able to call at the Borders village of Reston, which will be the first time in over 50 years.

The project has been welcomed as it will create vital transport links which will provide access to employment, education and facilities, whilst an easier journey to Edinburgh is likely to attract people to move into the area providing a boost for the local economy.

John Lamont MP for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk said: “I have been keeping up to date with the work at Reston station but it was good to have the opportunity to go on-site, meet the team and see first-hand the work that has been happening on the project since March.

“Providing easy local access to the east coast mainline services will make this area more attractive for inward investment and housing growth, which will both support local communities and the economy.

“This station will create new social and economic opportunities for people in Berwickshire which will deliver significant benefits to our local community.”

Lisa McKenna, Network Rail project manager for the Reston station development said: “The new station will improve social and economic opportunities for people in Reston and the surrounding communities and we will work hard to deliver the new facility for the area as quickly as possible.

“We appreciate that given the scale of the work, it is not without some disruption for the village, but It is an exciting development that has the potential to transform life for local people and the communities it will serve.”
