Type 2 locomotives set for Severn Valley Railway Gala

The has announced two visiting locomotives for its 2021 Autumn Diesel Gala.

Set to take place between the 30th of September and the 3rd of October, the Autumn Diesel Gala will feature and Class 31 .

Following yesterday's announcement that the gala will be returning to traditional travelling flexibility, demand for tickets is expected to be high.

One of four surviving examples, 24081 was withdrawn from service in 1981 and is now owned and maintained by the 24081 Locomotive Group and is based at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway.

31466 was originally classified as a Brush Type 2 and is currently operating in striking EWS livery. Currently, the locomotive is owned by the Dean Forest Diesel Association, though has recently arrived at the Severn Valley Railway on hire.

These visitors will join D9551, D8568, D1015 Western Champion, D1062 Western Courier, 40106 Atlantic Conveyor and Class 50s from a pool of 50007, 50035 and 50049.

At the gala, trains will start early morning and run through to the evening.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Thursday 19th August, over on the Severn Valley Railway website, and will also be available to purchase on the day.

“We are particularly pleased to be able to welcome our special guest locomotives,” said Jonathan Dunster, chairman of the SVR's diesels committee. “These ‘type 2' engines are sure to be popular with visitors. The Class 24 is making its third visit and we've had many requests for its return, whilst the Class 31 is making its first SVR Gala appearance. Many have already commented on its superb condition, following its recent arrival at Kidderminster.”
