Trent Valley Line railway upgrade works completed between Rugby and Stafford

Earlier this month, work on the railway between and was completed as part of a £2.6m project by .

Over 500 railway workers were involved in the project, with a total of over 240 hours spent making the improvements to the track.

Network Rail has thanked passengers for their patience for the four weekends that the work took place which involved laying over a mile of new track.

The Trent Valley line is one of the busiest sections of mixed use passenger and freight railway in Europe.

James Dean, Network Rail's West Coast South route director, said: “I'd like to thank passengers for bearing with us over the last month while we carried out this essential work to improve the Trent Valley line for the future.

“The section of track between Rugby and Stafford is one of the busiest sections of mixed use passenger and freight railway line in Europe, so making sure it takes people and goods to where they need to be safely, quickly and reliably is our top priority as we build back better from the coronavirus pandemic.”
