The has announced that they will be welcoming LMS Duchess No. 6233 Duchess of Sutherland to their railway for their Autumn Steam Gala.

6233 was last seen in LMS Crimson Lake livery, which was applied in 2018, and will look superb alongside the rake of LMS coaches that the Severn Valley Railway operates.

Duchess of Sutherland visits the Severn Valley Railway thanks to its owners, the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust.

6233 will join 813, 1501, 7714, 34027 ‘Taw Valley', 75069, 43106 and 2857 at the gala, which will include overnight running.

Tickets for both daytime and nighttime running are available now and seats must be booked in advance via the Severn Valley Railway website.

“We're delighted to be welcoming this very special engine to the SVR,” said general manager Helen Smith. “It's certainly going to stand out from the crowd with its striking ‘crimson lake' livery, and we think it will prove to be a real crowd pleaser.

“We'll be running the Gala in a similar way to our Spring Steam Up earlier this year, with four train sets in service, each one running three round trips. Passengers will remain with their booked train, and the locos will switch between sets, so that everyone gets the chance to be hauled by every single locomotive at the event.”

  • Great to see a steam gala, BUT why require advanced bookings, the ideaof a gala is to roam freely stopoff placesandbe flexible. NOT GOOD
