New accessible footbridge completed over the railway near Mexborough

A new accessible footbridge has been opened over the railway line near .

The project has been completed by ,and the new footbridge is over the line at Ferryboat Lane, between Mexborough and Old Denaby.

Those with additional access needs can now safely cross the railway thanks to the ramps installed along with stepped access..

The old footbridge was built in 1930, and remained open whilst the construction of the new footbridge took place.

Now the new bridge is complete, the level crossing on Ferryboat Lane will be closed, improving railway safety as the footpath is diverted across the new bridge.

Matt Rice, Route Director for Network Rail's North and East route, said: ”This new bridge opens up the area for everybody, no matter their access needs.

”I understand that work like this can be disruptive so was glad to keep this to a minimum by keeping the old bridge open until the new one was ready. I'd like to thank local people for their patience while we did this work.”
