Latest restoration update on steam locomotive 4253

The have published their latest update on the restoration of Great Western Railway (GWR) 4200 Class No.4253.

The team recently have lots of their time working on 4253.

Starting with boiler tubes, they cleaned, oiled then stacked each tube onto a pallet designed to hold the tubes.

Continuing on the boiler, components for the drop grate were taken out of storage for cleaning up, followed by measuring to ensure they acquire the correct size fire bars. After this, painting of the rear buffer beam began, once completed the engine's number can be sign written on.

Later in the week, the team got stuck into riveting on one of the water tanks. The position the rivets needed to be pressed made them difficult to fit, nevertheless around 50 were put in, putting 4253 one step closer to steaming.

Further riveting took place on the rearmost top panel, which involved bolting the section into place first.
