Network Rail is underway with a project that will see improved accessibility for customers at Finsbury Park railway station. The work will mean that a part of Stroud Green Road will need to be closed this weekend as preparations are made for the next steps in the project.
Work on the project began in July and will eventually see two new lifts, which will provide access to platforms 3&4 and platforms 7&8. The lifts will mean that the entire station will have step free access for passengers.
To complete this part of the project safely will mean a section of Stroud Green Road, which runs beneath the bridge next to the station, will need to be closed. The closure will take place from 06:00am on Saturday the 28th until 17:00pm on Sunday the 29th of August 2021 and is essential for teams to organise onsite facilities for workers to use during the entirety of the project.
A signposted diversion will be put into operation for drivers, with pedestrians still be able to gain access during the road closure. Cycle lanes on both sides of Stroud Green Road will be closed under the bridge at the station. Cyclists will be able to merge onto the carriageway rejoining the cycle lane at the end of the bridge.
Train services will not be impacted by any of the work which is being carried out in association with Govia Thameslink Railway and also Transport for London. The project has been funded by the Department of Transport Access for All programme.
During October, lifting equipment will be positioned onsite to allow the safe lifting of materials from Stroud Green Road onto platform level. Whilst this is happening, a temporary hoarding will be erected on platforms 3&4 which will allow the principal part of the project to go ahead keeping disruption to a minimum.
The Station Place entrance will also see a temporary hoarding put in place so that work can start on a new ticket office, which will move the gate line to this entry point, making movement through the station easier.
Further work will also take place to upgrade the lighting on the platforms, update signs and include installation of tactile paving on platforms to provide a better floor surfacing.

“Finsbury Park is a major transport hub connecting passengers to central London and the East Coast Main Line. This vital work will make it fully accessible and more welcoming for passengers, people who live nearby and visitors to the area.”

What about platforms 1 & 2 and platforms 5 & 6. Does these platforms also have lifts as well. If not then maybe add 2 extra lifts so that all platforms at Finsbury Park National Rail station are step-free. And maybe install lifts on the Victoria Line and Piccadilly Line platforms at Finsbury Park.
