The Tea Rooms at Crediton railway station in Devon will benefit from a new accessible toilet and washroom thanks to a grant from train operator Great Western Railway.
The £5,000 grant will enable the new facilities to be installed at the Tea Rooms, which are leased by The Turning Tides Project.
Great Western Railway are committed to improving accessibility at railway stations as part of their franchise agreement.
Turning Tides aim to make equal access a reality for people with a learning disability or autism and also run a range of community, music and art sessions in and around the building.
TTTP Director Jane Williams said: “This funding will help towards providing the only fully-accessible tea rooms/café in our community, providing easy-access toilet and washroom facilities on the main GWR North Devon route and on the main bus route, thus extending our ability to create equal access to everything we provide in our local community.”
GWR Mobility and Inclusion Manager Neil Craig said: “Many of the people who are part of The Turning Tides Project use wheelchairs and require hoists and personal assistance to access the toilet. This funding will help to deliver much-needed improvements for those accessing such an important project in North Devon.”
