has confirmed that they have won the contract to design, approve, supply, install and test the modifications needed to allow Mark 4 coaching stock to be operated by Class 67 locomotives.

The rail operator has a requirement to have four 5-car Mk4 sets, originally destined for use with Grand Central, and are already operating 3 similar sets between Holyhead and Cardiff.

The unit formation is currently not compatible, and means that modification work is needed to facilitate their revenue operations.

The project by DB ESG requires compatibility modifications as well as CCTV and Passenger Information Screens (PIS) reconfiguration.

DB ESG has experience in this rolling stock and this new contract follows on from work undertaken for Eversholt Rail in 2018/19.

Work on the rolling stock should be completed by March 2022.

Nick Goodhand, Managing Director, DB ESG said: “We appreciate the faith that such an important customer has shown in placing this contract with us. We are proud to have been able to continue delivering our projects to the UK rail industry during these extremely challenging times. “
