Bank Holidays are a great time to get out and about for the day or even the weekend and with the majority of the rail network in good running order for the August Bank Holiday what better time to head out on an adventure by rail.
The railways are looking forward to welcoming back passengers, getting them back with friends and family at some of Britains best-loved locations.
Staycationing has brought high demand for travel this summer and Network Rail has planned maintenance work to keep disruption for passengers to a minimum during the August Bank Holiday with more than 95% of the network in full working order, meaning that just a small number of lines, stations and destinations will be affected during this time.
Some of the engineering projects which Network Rail have underway during the August Bank Holiday period will see improvements to services making train travel more reliable for passengers in the future, many of these projects have been planned for months and some for years in advance.
The large scale works that are underway during the August bank holiday period are:
- Preparation work for HS2 at London Euston will see improved high-speed rail services for passengers with increased capacity. A revised timetable will be in use both to and from London Euston for the entire weekend and platforms 12 to 16 will be out of action.
- Track projects along with HS2 works between Water Orton and Nuneaton, further track renewal work will also be taking place between Birmingham International and Long Lawford which will provide track reliability. This work will affect services in Birmingham, Nuneaton, Coleshill Parkway and Coventry areas.
- Work will take place between London St. Pancras and Mill Hill Broadway and will see work on the points renewal at Carlton Road Junction whilst building work for the new Brent Cross station will be ongoing through the bank holiday weekend. Due to this work, no trains will run between Luton and London St. Pancras for the entire weekend. A revised, reduced service will also operate between Bedford and Mill Hill Broadway.
- Renovation work at Bristol East will mean future improvements in reliability for passengers but will mean platform 7 and also platforms 9 to 15 will be out of action at Bristol Temple Meads during the bank holiday weekend, however, bus replacements will be available between Bristol Temple Meads and Bath, Keynsham and Oldfield Park.
- Maintenance and upgrade work will take place between Moorgate/Canonbury West and Finsbury Park which will improve passenger safety during the bank holiday weekend and will mean that Moorgate services will be diverted to London King's Cross from Saturday the 28th of August to Tuesday the 31st of August 2021.

“While some works are taking place, we've worked hard to reduce the impact on passengers as far as possible so that they can enjoy and rely on our railway.”
