The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway has announced that resident steam locomotive, Midland Railway 4F No. 43924, has gained a boiler extension.
The popular engine is in use all week following the good news, meaning you can ride behind a steam engine that is 100 years old between Keighley and Oxenhope.
This also puts the 4F in contention to take part in September's Mixed Traffic Gala, held from the 10th to the 12th of September.
The 4F has become popular with crews and passengers alike, and is the sole surviving MR 4F today.
About 4F 43924
43924 is the sole surviving example of the Midland Railway built Fowler 4F, as the LMS built the other surviving 4Fs.
They were built between 1911 and 1923, with 43924 built in 1920.
The 4Fs survived into the end of steam with the last withdrawal in 1965. The same year 43924 was taken out of traffic and sent to Barry Scrapyard in Wales.
Fortunately, 43924 was rescued and was the first loco to leave Barry scrapyard for preservation.
