Track improvement work completed between York and Church Fenton

have completed work on the railway line between and .

The work was carried out by Network Rail on the weekend of 3rd and 4th July. The project involved lifting and replacing around 450 metres of track that runs through the station at .

The work was announced last month, and further upgrades are planned as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade between Manchester and York.

Buses replaced some train services which could not run or which were diverted.

Although the work was completed on time, a suspected lightning strike in the area caused damage to signalling equipment causing delays yesterday morning.

Matt Rice, Route Director for Network Rail's North and East Route, said: “I'm delighted that the track improvements were completed as planned. This upgrade will provide smoother, more reliable journeys for passengers making short connections across Yorkshire and I'd like to thank passengers for their patience whilst the work was carried out.”

  • Network Rail should continue on electrifying from Colton Junction through Church Fenton to Neville Hill. So that electric and Bi-mode trains can run fully electric between York and Leeds.

  • Has linespeed between Church Fenton and York been raised from 100, to 125mph on the Up, and Down Leeds?
