Train operator Greater Anglia have announced that improved cycle parking facilities are now available for passengers using Diss railway station.
72 new cycle racks and a 24-space secure cycle storage area have been installed at the station, meaning that the number of spaces available at the station has increased from 20 to 96.
A Greater Anglia Smart Card is needed to access the secure area, available for an annual fee of £25.
Cycle spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Around 1,000 extra spaces for cycles have been installed across the Greater Anglia network and these will hopefully encourage more eco-friendly travel options for passengers using the railway stations.
Other stations which have benefitted from extra storage for cycles are Marks Tey, Bishop's Stortford, Dullingham and Whittlesford Parkway stations, with works progressing at Audley End, Braintree, Manningtree, March, Newmarket, Elsenham, Southend Victoria and Rochford stations.
Simone Bailey, Greater Anglia's Asset Management Director, said: “We are committed to supporting green transport and environmental initiatives across our region.
“More people are choosing to live in our region and travel by train, and before the pandemic we were seeing increasing numbers of people cycling to stations. As people return to rail, we're keen to expand our cycling facilities, especially as it helps people to minimise their carbon footprint for the entire length of their journeys.
“We want to make sure cyclists are able to leave their bikes at the station safely while they travel with us so we are pleased to have installed this secure facility and additional parking at Diss.”
