Train operator will soon commence work at railway station in Cambridgeshire.

Starting next week (12th July) a new temporary ticket office will be opened at the far side of the station, and the station entrance will be closed, allowing remodelling of the station to begin.

A new open-plan ticket all and waiting area will be created, along with new accessible toilet facilities.

The car park at the station will also be upgraded and extended, along with the creation of retail outlets.

The work is part of a multi-million pound regeneration of Fenland's railway stations, between Ely and Peterborough.

The project should be completed by 2021, and is being delivered through Fenland District Council's Railway Station Masterplans project, with a £9.5million package of funding from the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority and support from Greater Anglia.

Greater Anglia's Asset Management Director, Simone Bailey, said, “I would like to thank customers for their patience while we carry out this upgrade which will transform the station and offer a vastly improved travelling experience.”

Mayor of Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, Dr Nik Johnson, said, “The point of transport is to serve people so improving travel options and connections for the Fenland community is a must. That's why the Combined Authority is investing millions of pounds and collaborating closely with partners to make this happen. Those combined efforts are paying off, and people can see major construction starting on March's new Platform 1 buildings, and car parks at March and at Manea and Whittlesea all taking shape.”
