Following an inspection by Ofsted, (GTR) has confirmed they gained top marks for their apprenticeship programme.

Running at GTR's Selhurst depot in South London, the Ofsted New Provider Monitoring Visit noted many benefits and a high quality to each course.

Ofsted found training providers to be motivating, promoting ambitious goals, inspiring students and adopting a safety-first approach, gaining top marks.

COVID-19 has made GTR rethink how to deliver the apprenticeship programme, measures that have proved effective.

Apprenticeships combine both on the job training with studying towards a qualification, with the goal of the individual to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out the role they are training towards.

GTR is planning to employ 200 apprentices in 2021 across the company within a variety of different roles. GTR's apprenticeship programme is very inclusive, as the below statistics show:

  1. 27% of apprentices are women
  2. 60% of apprentices are over 30 years old
  3. 30% of apprentices are over 40 years old

David Jackson, Apprenticeship Specialist at Govia Thameslink Railway, said: “We're really proud to see our apprentice programme recognised in this way. Our people are our biggest asset and we're focused on attracting the next generation of talent to the rail industry. Our apprenticeship schemes offer an insight into the breadth of roles available in the sector in a structured, supportive learning environment.”
