Alstom completes first Prima M4 locomotive built in Kazakhstan

has announced that it has completed its first KZ4AT locomotive in .

20 of these locomotives were built in France between 2014 and 2016 but No. 21 has been commissioned and built in Kazakhstan for Kazakhstan Railways.

These locomotives can travel up to 200 kmh in a variety of weather and more than 3,200 have been built across the world in the last 20 years.

“Today is a very important day, a date to be remembered! We are very honoured to present and commission the very first made-in-Kazakhstan passenger electric locomotive. Thanks to our strong partnership with KTZ and our ambitious localisation plan, this tailor-made locomotive will run across the country at speeds up to 200 kph.”

“This new product is a result of an additional transfer of technology completed thanks to the support of our European manufacturing sites. The state of the art quality of the product also demonstrates the strong capacities acquired in our EKZ plant, located in Nur-Sultan, which is definitely positioned as a key player of the railway industry, here in Kazakhstan”, said Guillaume Tritter, Alstom Managing Director for Western & Central Asia.

The delivery of these locomotives is part of the contract between Kazakhstan Railways and Alstom to supply and maintain 302 Prima T8 freight locomotives and 119 Prima M4 passenger locomotives.
