Network Rail has begun work on a project to build a new accessible footbridge over the railway in Cleethorpes.
The new bridge at Suggitt's Lane in the seaside town will connect with the beachfront. It will have stepped and ramped access.
Plans were approved by North East Lincolnshire Council on the 17th of June.
A site compound is being created and work on fencing cabling and the moving of materials will start soon.
Ecological surveys have been undertaken and some trees near to the line will need to be removed, but options are being looked into for the planting of new ones nearby.
The bridge is expected to be completed in December, local residents have been informed about the work involved. The crossing was closed to pedestrians in 2019.
Matt Rice, Route Director for Network Rail's North and East Route, said: “We know that people in Cleethorpes will be delighted to see work starting on this project to build an accessible footbridge over the railway at Suggitt's Lane.
“Our teams continue to work closely with North East Lincolnshire Council and residents in Cleethorpes to deliver the bridge as quickly as possible.
“We want to thank people in the community for their patience as we worked to find the best option and we would like to apologise for any inconvenience whilst this vital work to install the bridge is carried out.”

Many stations have these and are ideal as well level crossings in towns and cities. And stations that have footbridges with lifts whilst other stations and level crossings don’t have footbridges with lifts. I think it’s a good idea to install more footbridges to keep people safe.
