Man jailed after causing damage to Motherwell depot and stealing charity box

The has confirmed that a man has been jailed for nearly 2 years after the theft of railway equipment and causing damage to Depot.

Joseph Guiheen, who is 44, has been jailed for 21 months after £4,520 worth of personal belongings and railway equipment were stolen and £4,635 of damage was caused to Motherwell Depot.

The theft took place on 13th and 24th December and 15th January which included three iPhones, a Samalite torch, 2 HP laptops and a charity box along with other equipment.

An on-duty staff member also had his bag stolen which had clothing, headphones and after shave worth £200.

Detective Constable Thomas Gallagher said: “This was a determined and brazen theft which could have cost the railway over £9,000 in loss.

“This sentence demonstrates just how seriously the courts take these incidents, and I'm sure this custodial sentence will give the individual plenty of time to reflect on his actions.

“We are committed to tackling all forms of theft and work closely with Network Rail and other industry partners to make the railway a difficult place for these criminals to operate.
