Network Rail will be carrying out improvement work on Broome Lane Level Crossing in Charnwood to make sure it continues to operate reliably in the future.
Between Thursday 17th June and Thursday 24th June, engineers will be replacing crossing barriers and equipment with new versions which means it will remain fit for purpose.
The lights at the crossing will be upgraded too and reflective signs will be fitted to improve safety – new road lights will also be installed during this time.
For the work to take place, the level crossing will be closed from 10pm on Thursday 17th June until 6 am on Thursday 24th June.
Disruption has been minimised in the area after Network Rail worked with Leicestershire County Council and a diversion will be in place for drivers, there will be no pedestrian access over the crossing.
Work will not impact train services and letters have been sent by Network Rail to local residents about the work.
Vinny Briggs, Route Level Crossing Manager for Network Rail, said: “This work will make sure Broome Lane level crossing remains safe and reliable for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians crossing the railway.
“Upgrading the barriers and equipment at the crossing now will reduce the amount of maintenance required, meaning less disruption for passengers and for people in the community in future. We want to thank people in the area for their patience whilst these vital improvements are carried out.”
