About 4144

One of 10 surviving engines, 4144 is owned by the GWS who maintain a large fleet of GWR at Didcot Railway Centre. Using the 2-6-2T wheel arrangement, the class would be allocated to suburban passenger services and banking duties for heavy trains over steep sections of line.

Spending only nine years at Barry Scrapyard in Wales, 4144 was restored for use on preserved railways in 1997. The tank's latest overhaul was completed in May 2015, with the locomotive's current livery being British Railways Unlined Green with “British Railways” on the tanks.
