Peterborough’s Nene Valley Railway to welcome steam locomotive 4144 in June

The has announced that GWR Large Prairie No. 4144 will be visiting them this Summer.

4144 will be visiting the railway from Mid-June until Late August to help operate steam services.

The locomotive has been hired thanks to an agreement with the Didcot Railway Centre.

4144 will be available for passenger services, driver experience courses and Jolly Fisherman Fish and Chip trains.

About 4144

4144 was built in 1946 by the Great Western Railway and is one of the 5101 class of locomotives. 4144 is a medium-sized tank engine and was used for suburban and local passenger services of the Great Western Railway network, and this includes the Severn Valley branch in BR days.

  • Well I must say… Welcoming An ex-Great Western Steam Tank Loco, whsoe number is indeed, number 4144… shall be Quite A Highlight for the NVR,

    The Nene Valley Railway (of whom I creatively decribe, in my book… As, Cmabridgeshire’s Cross Country Heritage Railway)…

    As with most other Heritage Railways… Are Ever so Lucky, epecially wih A Bright & Colorful Future Ahead.
