You may know my channel RailView from my articles here on RailAdvent. What you might not know is that I am studying media and hoping to go to University later this year to study film and television production.

My love of filmmaking originally started when I was a child and would film passing locomotives on my iPod, not getting the best footage in the world but it certainly created a love of railways and of filming, as time went on and the cameras improved in mobile phones, I discovered how to edit my films together and this is when I started using YouTube to share what I had seen which eventually turned into RailView as it is today.

When I had to choose what to do for my final major project at college, I knew it had to be something railway related and made a short railway documentary called ‘Off The Rails.'

‘Off The Rails' is a 5-minute documentary short that features an interview with fellow rail enthusiast, Nathaniel Parker, who is a photographer, volunteer, lifelong railway enthusiast and now works alongside East Midlands Railway.

The documentary is meant to capture a snapshot of why he loves railways so much and a glimpse into where his passion started and also featuring some stunning scenes of locomotives in action.

Whilst making ‘Off The Rails' it occurred to me that a short documentary-like video series would be something that I would enjoy watching myself which gave me the idea to make ‘Off The Rails' a series with the next episode featuring an interview with a former British Railways fireman and Driver to capture other aspects and record personal stories of our railway world.

I hope that you enjoy my first ‘Off The Rails' documentary!
