East Midland Railway (EMR) has announced the introduction of their brand-new electric powered EMR Connect service in May 2021, the company's first electric route.
Utilising their fleet of Class 360s, EMR will operate trains, consisting of eight carriages, every 30 minutes starting at Corby.
The service heads to London St Pancras via Kettering, Wellingborough, Bedford, Luton & Luton Airport Parkway and return.
This new service has been made possible thanks to Network Rail's Midland Main Line Upgrade, costing £1.5 billion. Key benefits to this new service for passengers and residents living close are:
- Carbon emissions reduced by up to 77%
- Quieter trains thanks to being electric
- Increased capacity
- Services operating every 30 minutes starting from 6am on weekdays (offering more services to customers).
- Sunday services following full weekday timetable after 2pm (offering more services to customers).
EMR Connect offers huge benefits to residents living along the route, opening new opportunities.
EMR have plans to refurbish their fleet of Class 360 units, which would further improve customer experience. Details of this planned programme will be released when finalised.

East Midlands Railway could also allow some of their EMR Connect Class 360 trains to stop at West Hampstead Thameslink and Kentish Town if that’s necessary.
