Employees of Avanti West Coast featured in NRM’s Railway Heroes exhibition

The is holding a virtual exhibition to highlight rail worker's role in UK's response to COVID-19.

COVID-19 has impacted everyone in the UK, especially key workers like people working in the rail industry.

Some individuals stand out more, with four of the 16 individuals selected to star in the exhibition working for .

These four are:

  1. Janet Bamber – Train Manager at Preston – Combined her seamstress skills and community group volunteering time to produce scrubs for the NHS
  2. Hussain Master – Train Manager at Preston – stepped up his volunteer hours to deliver hot meals to NHS workers and the local community
  3. CJ Morgan – Train Manager – volunteered as a Special for the Metropolitan police
  4. Seema Jadva – Train Manager – volunteered as a Special for the Metropolitan police

A physical exhibition will take place once COVID-19 measures are eased, at both National Railway Museum in York and Locomotion in Shildon, County Durham.

Managing Director at Avanti West Coast Phil Whittingham said: “It's an honour for Avanti West Coast to see our people recognised in this exhibition alongside the rest of the rail industry.

“Whether it is keeping people connected, dedicating time to help others or bolstering the efforts of the emergency services, the railway and its workers have played a vital role throughout the pandemic.

“I am so proud of their efforts to support the UK's response to the coronavirus crisis and make a difference in the local communities we serve.”

Director of the National Railway Museum, Judith McNicol said: “This exhibition is an opportunity to say ‘thank you' to the thousands of railway key workers who have kept the country going over the last year. From delivering essential supplies and transporting NHS workers, to selfless volunteering, the stories featured in the exhibition are an inspiration and fully deserving of wider recognition.”
