Work to replace two railway bridges at Warrington Bank Quay railway station has been completed over Easter.
Network Rail has released time-lapse footage of the work. As part of the Great North Rail Project, the work saw a giant crane was used to lift the two new bridges into place.
The £3.5m project involved removing the bridge which carries 2 tracks by platform one and also saw a footbridge outside the station replaced.
Trains were unable to call at the station while the work took place. Some work remains to be completed at the station, but is not expected to cause any major disruption to passengers and will be completed by the end of the month.
Further work on the railway network is due to take place over the early May bank holiday weekend and anyone planning to travel should check journey details and plan ahead. For more information on changes to train times, visit the National Rail Enquiries website.
Phil James, director for Network Rail's North West route, said: “I'd like to thank passengers for their patience while we carried out these essential railway upgrades in Warrington. This work will improve performance for passengers and freight and help to play its part in Britain building back better from the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Now our attention turns to the early May bank holiday when more essential railway improvements will take place. Because of the amount of work being done, passengers are being urged to travel either side of the bank holiday on Friday 30 April and Tuesday 4 May.”

The works will help to make journeys more reliable for our customers on the West Coast Main Line as we look forward to welcoming them back in the near future.”

There’s a small branch line that goes beneath Warrington Bank Quay station and the West Coast Main Line. Maybe add 2 new additional platforms on the low level to connect with the existing high level platforms at Warrington Bank Quay and to rename the railway station as Warrington Interchange. Just like Retford on the East Coast Main Line that has high level platforms serving the ECML and low level platforms serving local lines including to & from Nottingham, Lincoln, Skegness and in the near future to Lough when the new railway line to Lough does reopen.
