The Mid Hants Railway has confirmed that Friday 30th April to Monday 3rd May 2021 will see the return of its Spring Steam Gala.

The 10-mile line will be open for people to explore its heritage stations as well as attending exhibits and open-air talks and finding out more about the various restoration projects.

GWR steam locomotives, 5526 and 6435, will be action across the weekend thanks to the South Devon Railway and Bodmin and Wenford Railway respectively.

These locomotives will join the home fleet of locomotives to operate an intensive timetable so passengers can travel to any station to enjoy the open-air facilities.

Trains will operate over the length of the line and include mixed passenger and freight trains that will run between Ropley and Alresford.

A shunting demonstration will take place at Rople as well as history talks at both Ropley and Medstead.

Passengers will be able to hop on and off any train they wish.

Simon Baggott, General Manager at the Watercress Line, said: “We can’t wait to welcome visitors and train-lovers back to Spring Steam Gala again. We are sure visitors will enjoy immersing themselves in the feel of a rural, bygone, golden age of train travel while learning their history, hearing a talk or simply having a cup of tea with friends and family in a most picturesque setting.”

  • This is Jolly Great News to Hear…. I still Wish the Mid-Hants Railway (of whom we all know, as The Watercress Line)… Good Luck.

It’s Grand that these Popular Steam Galas, see this Hampshire Heritage Railway & most other Preserved Railway lines across the UK, see other steam locos from different backgrounds visiting from other preserved lines in-between.
