(LNER) has released thousands of tickets on their services in anticipation of staycations in the UK being popular in 2021.

With the UK Government easing the UK public out of full lockdown, reducing restrictions, people have been looking into options for staycation or holidays within the UK.

LNER has noticed a large increase for certain services and routes, likely to be in connection with holidays.

With 58% of people surveyed hoping to visit their favourite UK destination and 67% saying a UK spot or destination is on their personal bucket list, this further supports staycations being very popular.

To ensure the public can visit places and take holidays, LNER has released thousands of seats available to book to give people time to plan.

One route of particular interest was between the North East and London King's Cross along the East Coast Mainline.

More information can be found on the LNER website and their roadmap to travel page.

Television Presenter and Outdoor Lover Julia Bradbury said: “I've tried to make the most of lockdowns and I've spent a lot of time exploring my local area BUT I can't wait to get back out there and go further afield for a staycation this summer. We're spoilt for choice in the UK with gorgeous locations, iconic walks and stunning views – all around the country. Planning is key and travelling by train can be less stressful and more environmentally friendly! LNER head out to some cracking destinations, including the breath-taking landscapes of Scotland, the historic and vibrant cities of Yorkshire and the hidden gems of North East of England.”

LNER Managing Director David Horne said: “From summer onwards, 2021 will be the year for holidaying in the UK, which doesn't surprise us given the destinations and landscapes that can be reached at speed from your front door.

“A domestic trip has never been more appealing to people wanting to escape the same four walls without the concerns attached to overseas travel at present.

“As customer confidence builds, we've certainly seen a significant increase in our website searches, and thousands have signed up for ticket alerts as people start to plan ahead. The staycation is here to stay and we're hopeful that we'll be seeing lots of customers exploring our fine destinations this year.”

  • Furthermore… LNER have A Fantastically Outstanding Modern Sort of Livery, of which is already as Recognizably Familiar…. ever since LNER took over, and I can’t even imagine the ECML without this so much better Modern Railway Company that’s likely going to be around for so many years to come & go.

  • I still think LNER, are doing such a great & fantastic job, running the East Coast Main Line, let alone the further extensive line (North of Edinburgh, en-route to Inverness).

I now also hope LNER’s contract gets renewed even further, into the mid-2030s, who knows.
